Nike 4005 Indoor Ball Review
The Nike 4005 Tournament Basketball features wrap-around panel construction that eliminates intersecting channels on the sides. Grooves look similar to the Spalding NBA and NBA D-league ball, but with a squared off shape. Nike hypes it as providing more consistent touch and shot rotation along with easier groove feel.
Micro perfed(perforated) composite leather cover keeps sweat from collecting on the surface of the ball. Pebble grain provides a sure handle and under panel padding gives great feel similar to the Wilson Evolution.
The Nike 4005 most resembles the Wilson Evolution - which is widely accepted as the best all around indoor ball for pros and us average folks alike. Wide deep channels allow for better alignment and ball control. Similar foam backing to the Wilson WAVE but with better feel. Grip is better than the Wilson Solution game ball and has a the nice cushioned feel we have come to expect from a high end ball. It is not tacky like the Solution or as smooth as Spalding TF-1000 zk and Spalding Zi/0 out of the box. It beats all others on initial feel because of its Rotationally wound butyl carcass with superior shape retention.
The only real issue is with the overall value. At $60 it is similar to other game day balls designed strictly for indoor use. Overall we expect the first long lasting acceptable offering from Nike to be a real contender for overall ball supremacy. The Nike 4005 Tournament ball has been NFHS approved for high school play.
This ball is being used by 112 collegiate sports programs, Four(4) major conferences, Three(3) professional leagues around the world and by several NCAA division one teams.
